Macronutrients

Animal Nutrition

For humans, there are three primary macronutrient classes, consumed in the greatest quantities for bulk energy and growth.
Proteins
Carbohydrates
Fats

Plant Nutrition

For plants, there are also three primary soil macronutrients, typically listed on fertilizer packaging:
Nitrogen (N)
Phosphorus (P)
Potassium (K)

In addition to the soil nutrients, plants also require water, sunlight, and carbon dioxide in the photosynthetic production of carbohydrates.
